G4S Employment Support Services

ESF Support for Families

In addition to managing our Work Programme Contracts and Community Work Placement contracts, G4S Employment Support Services successfully delivered a £15 million contract in Greater Manchester, Cheshire and Warrington as part of a £200 million initiative to help England’s most troubled families.

Supported by the European Social Fund (ESF) and coordinated by local authorities, the service helped people from families with multiple problems, move towards, and into, employment. Each family was  provided with a ‘Key Worker’ who worked with them to produce a dedicated action plan that would assist them on their journey towards employment. Through this approach, we have helped more than 1400 individuals make the crucial step into long term, sustainable employment.

The organisations delivering this service in partnership with G4S Employment Support Services, were known as our ‘Family Support Brokers’. These Brokers are drawn from the public, voluntary and private sectors and have a track record of helping families tackle multiple barriers and problems. They were and are completely committed to delivering tailored, flexible support to each family and individual, including:

  • Skills to help them find work e.g. CV-writing and job preparation
  • Tackling family difficulties e.g. support for parenting, providing good role models, addressing behavioural issues
  • Social and economic matters e.g. reducing debts, running family budgets
  • Health and housing support e.g. reducing alcohol or drug misuse, finding permanent accommodation for families
  • Identifying suitable employment opportunities for those who are out of work
  • Helping those who are in work to stay in work and progress
  • Moving people onto the Work Programme, where appropriate

“Working with G4S was a real learning curve and offered us an opportunity to be managed by a company recognised as a world leader with a local flavour. Together we embraced changes to develop a culture across Greater Manchester of being recognised as the programme that “can”.

G4S gave us the space to deliver using our own unique style whilst keeping us aligned within the obligations of the contract. Offering support along the way whilst encouraging new ways of delivery.” – Elaine Brady, PPDG

This project is part-financed by the European Union

“This programme provided support for over 11,000 families across Manchester, Warrington and Cheshire. We have also proudly delivered over 20,000 ‘Progress Measures’, that had been individually tailored to meet the needs of the individual.”

– Paul Hill, Regional Contract Director, G4S
